    What does jasmine rice?

Jasmine rice is a long grain. In Chinese, literally means Thai fragrant rice or Thai aromatic rice. Besides, it has aroma compounds and will disappear within a few months. Therefore, most people prefer each year's freshly harvested new crop. After the rice is cooked, it’s moist, soft and slightly sweet.

Where is Jasmine rice come from?

Most of jasmine rice is grown from Thailand and Thailand’s jasmine rice is very famous and popular.

Instant pot vs rice cooker to cook jasmine rice?

Most Asians cook rice in a rice cooker and I used to use a rice cooker too! However, once I used an instant pot pressure cooker to cook rice. I will never go back to using my rice cooker because instant pot does make the rice taste even better and still keep the aroma of rice and moisture.

What is the ratio of rice to water to cook in the instant pot?

Normally, when I cook rice, I don’t measure the water. I just use my hand and finger to feel for it. This is the way Asians were taught to do it.

However, a friend asked me how much water she should put in an instant pot to cook jasmine rice. And, I find out the best is to use a 1:1 ratio which means 1 cup of rice uses 1 cup of water. Then, the rice will come out perfectly.

Cooking tips for how to cook perfect jasmine rice in instant pot:

    • Wash, rub, rinse and drain the rice very well.
    • Add rice into the instant pot and add water. The best ratio is 1:1. For example, 3 cups of rice needs 3 cups of water.
    • Make sure to level off the rice and all cover by water.
    • Push the manual button and adjust time for 6 minutes at high pressure and natural release pressure.

    FAQs:

    Should you rinse jasmine rice?

Yes, wash and rinse a few times to remove the cloudy/milky water. But, you don’t need to soak it before cooking. (Sometimes I save the washed rice water to make pickled mustard greens and use to water house plants.)

How long should you cook jasmine rice?

When you use a rice cooker, it takes around 20-30 minutes.

If you use an instant pot, people normally push the manual button and adjust time for 5 minutes at high pressure and natural release pressure. However, I like to use 6 minutes because sometimes I am in a rush, I will do a quick release after manual 6 minutes and the rice is perfectly cooked.
