What is black pepper sauce (黑椒汁)?

There are various types of black pepper sauce, each suited for different culinary uses. Some are ideal for stir-frying, while others work well as a sauce alongside rice and prime rib roast. This particular black pepper sauce recipe resembles gravy and pairs wonderfully with meats such as steak, chicken chop, and pork chop. However, it is not creamy like traditional peppercorn sauce.

What does homemade black pepper sauce taste like?

This black pepper sauce has a bold, spicy flavor from black pepper. It balances with salty, savory, and slightly sweet undertones. Some recipes may taste slightly different depending on the ingredients.

    Is black pepper sauce spicy?

The spiciness level varies according to the amount of black pepper used. It is generally mild to moderately spicy but can be adjusted to personal taste.

What dishes can I use black pepper sauce for?

Black pepper sauce is versatile and pairs well with various foods, such as stir-fried beef, chicken, or shrimp. It serves excellent with grilled or pan-seared steaks, chicken chops, pork chops, and chow mein or rice.

    Is black pepper sauce gluten-free?

Not all black pepper sauces are gluten-free, as soy sauce and other ingredients may contain gluten. To make a gluten-free black pepper sauce, ensure you use gluten-free soy sauce and other ingredients.

Can I make the sauce in advance?

Yes, you can make this black pepper sauce and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or microwave it for 1-2 minutes.

What are the ingredients for easy black pepper sauce (黑椒汁)?

This flavorful black pepper sauce is made with garlic, onion, black pepper, beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, flour, and vegetable oil. Together, they quickly form a restaurant-quality sauce.

    Substitution:

    Can I substitute Worcestershire sauce?

If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, you can use soy sauce with a small amount of balsamic vinegar; please taste and adjust the recipe accordingly.

Can I make it vegetarian or vegan?

Absolutely! You can use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.

    Storage:

How do I store black pepper sauce?

You can keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze it in small portions.

Cooking tips for how to make black pepper sauce (黑椒汁):

    • Mince garlic, cut onion into small pieces, and stir fry in a pan for a little bit.
    • Combine beef broth, sugar, salt, pepper, Worcestershire, and flour in a bowl. Mix them very well. Then, pour the mixture into the pan and keep stirring until thickening.
    • Simmer for a few minutes to let the flavor of garlic and onion come out.
    • Add black pepper to your taste. I suggest adding ¼ teaspoon at a time.

    FAQs:

How do I avoid lumps in my sauce?

Whisk the flour thoroughly with the broth before adding it to the sauce to avoid lumps. Stir the sauce constantly while cooking to ensure smoothness.

    How hot is the sauce?

It depends on how much black pepper you add. In the recipe, I add ¾ teaspoon, which is medium-spicy. You can reduce it to ½ teaspoon, or I suggest adding ¼ teaspoon, depending on your taste and spicy level.

What do you use for the sauce?

I usually use this sauce for steak, chicken chop, pork chop, or meatball dishes.

How can I thicken my black pepper sauce if I want it thicker?

You can add more flour and beef broth, whisking it into the sauce until it thickens.
