How to roast a whole chicken?

There are different ways to cook a whole chicken. Rotisserie chicken is one of the styles to roast chicken over a fire or an oven. Since not many people have a skewer tool to hold the whole chicken and roast in the oven or over a fire at home.

Most of the people will roast or bake a whole chicken in an oven. Therefore, I am going to share the best way to bake a whole chicken in an oven-- a beer can chicken style.

The best way to bake a whole chicken:

Years ago, I have seen people use an empty soda can as a stand and put a chicken up straight. Then, bake it in an oven. Now, most people call this way beer can chicken.

I thought this is a great idea because the chicken can be cooked evenly and has a nice crispy golden brown skin. It’s pretty similar to the idea of skewered rotisserie chicken.

An idea came to my mind that I have something similar to a soda can. Afterwards, I looked into my baking tools and found an angel fruit cake pan.

Thus, I use a cake mold as a stand and put the chicken up straight to make a nice and juicy beer can chicken. And now, we love our homemade baked whole chicken better than Costco one. Besides, I find this is the best way to bake juicy and tender whole chicken at home.

What are the ingredients for baked whole chicken?

The ingredients are very simple: salt, garlic powder, parsley and a whole chicken.

Cooking tip for how to make beer can chicken style:

    • The best to marinate the chicken overnight. If not, at least a few hours before baking.
    • Use a cake mold stand to put up the chicken and bake it, so the chicken will be very moist and tender.
    • You can always add more and different seasonings or herbs.
    • Baking time is crucial for a tender and juicy chicken. I roughly estimate the time depending on how big the chicken is. I do 10 minutes per pound, then add more minutes until it's internal temperature reaches 165F. For example, in this recipe the chicken is 5.25 pounds. I baked for around 52-55 minutes.

    FAQs:

Can I use other seasonings and herbs?

Absolutely, yes you can use other seasonings and herbs. I only use garlic powder and parsley because I want to keep the recipe simple and easy.

How long do you roast a whole chicken?

Using this beer can style method to roast or bake a whole chicken average is around 45-75 minutes for 4-7 pounds chicken. The time depends on the weight of the chicken.

Normally, it's around 10-15 mins per pound (depending on the temperature). But, I usually start with 10 minutes per pound, then add more minutes until it's internal temperature reaches 165F. For example, in this recipe the chicken is 5.25 pounds. I baked for around 52-55 minutes.

What is the temperature to bake a whole chicken in the oven?

In this whole roasted chicken recipe, I baked at 425 F and the time depends on how big the chicken is.
