    What is lychee slush?

Lychee slush is a refreshing beverage made from lychee fruit or syrup. It’s a popular drink among boba stores in the states and across Asia. Lychee is a tropical fruit from Southeast Asia and is known for its sweet and floral flavor. To make a lychee slushy, the fruit is typically blended with ice and sugar or syrup. The mixture is blended until smooth and served cold.

Most of the boba drink stores just use ice, water and lychee flavored syrup to make lychee slush because it’s cheaper and has a great aroma and sweetness. Lychee slush is a popular and flavorful drink in many Asian cuisines especially during hot weather.

What does lychee slush taste like?

Lychee slush has a distinct and delightful flavor. It has a sweet, floral, and slightly tropical taste because the primary flavor of lychee fruit is sweet and has hints of rose, pear, and grape flavor. The slushy and icy texture adds a refreshing element to the drink. The sweetness of the drink can vary depending on the amount of syrup added to the slush. Overall, lychee slush is a sweet, delicious and chilled beverage with a unique flavor and aroma.

    What is lychee?

Lychee (Litchi chinensis) is a tropical fruit and native to Southeast Asia. In Cantonese, we called them lai6 zi1 (荔枝) or lìzhī in mandarin Chinese. Lychee is rich in vitamin C, copper, potassium and antioxidants. Also, it has a sweet and distinctive flavor. Often, it is described as sweet, floral, slightly tart and has hints of rose, pear, and grape flavors.

The lychee fruit size is a little bit smaller than a ping pong ball. Most of the time the outside skin is reddish pink and some species have reddish brown outer skin. The texture of the outer skin is a little rough and inedible.

You need to peel the skin off and eat the fruit inside. The inside fruit is translucent white, sweet, floral aroma and juicy. The seed is black and shiny in the center of the fruit.

Typically lychee is eaten fresh as a fruit. But, we use the fruit to make desserts, beverages or stir fry to serve as a savory dish. Often, lychee fruits harvest in the summer months and are popular in many Asian cuisines around the world.

From a Chinese medical point of view, lychee is hot, we call it “yeet hay” in Cantonese which means that the excessive heat causes an imbalance in the body and causes sickness such as indigestion and rashes. Therefore, a lot of people recommend not eating more than 3 lychee fruits a day. And, avoid eating the fruit with an empty stomach.

What are the ingredients in lychee slushy?
