    What is honeydew popsicle?

A honeydew popsicle is a frozen dessert usually made from the juice, puree or flavoring of honeydew melons. Honeydew melons are a type of melon with a sweet and refreshing flavor. Therefore, people like to use honeydew to make popsicles to capture the natural sweetness, aroma of melons, creating a cool treat for dessert or hot summer.

In this honeydew popsicle recipe, I am going to share the Melona honeydew ice pop. Melona is a brand of popsicle from South Korea. It became popular worldwide because of its great flavor, creamy and smooth texture. And, in the states you can easily find them at Asian grocery stores and Costco. They have coconut, mango, strawberry, ube, banana and honey dew flavors.

Among these flavors, honeydew melon is my favorite one and my family loves it a lot. Therefore, I like to make this Melona homemade honeydew flavored popsicles as a treat.

What makes this homemade honeydew ice pop special?

This honeydew ice pop is not the same as regular popsicles that are made from a real honeydew fruit. It is a copycat of Melona brand popsicles. They are made from 4 simple ingredients: heavy whipping cream, milk, sweet condensed milk and honeydew flavored boba powder. Besides, the honeydew flavored boba powder makes the aroma stand out so well. Also, the creamy and smooth texture of the ice pop is from the heavy whipping cream and milk. Kids and adults love it. After you finish one, you will want more! They are hard to resist.

Do I need special equipment to make this honeydew popsicle?

Yes, the best is to use lay flat pop out silicone popsicle mold like this one because it will be easier to take out the popsicles. If you use pull out popsicle mold from the top, it will be hard to pull out and easily break because the popsicles are creamy and not suitable for pulling out top popsicle mold. Also, you need an electric mixer to beat the heavy whipping cream to a thick texture.

What are the ingredients for homemade Melona honeydew flavor popsicles?

This homemade Melona honeydew flavored popsicle recipe has 4 simple ingredients: heavy whipping cream, milk, sweet condensed milk and honeydew flavored boba powder. And, this recipe can make 5 popsicles. If you want to make more, you can double the recipe. Fill up the rest of the mold, put the extra in a container and freeze it.

    honeydew flavored ingredients

In this honeydew popsicle recipe, I didn’t use real honeydew fruit. However, I use honeydew flavored boba powder instead. The reason I use the powder is because it has a great honeydew aroma and flavor. Plus, it has a nice green color and just tastes like Melona honeydew flavored popsicles.

Cooking tips for how to make homemade Melona honeydew popsicle:

    • Beat the heavy whipping cream until it’s thick. Remember don’t over whip it.
    • Then, add the sweet condensed milk, honeydew flavored boba powder and milk.
    • Turn on the mixer and mix them well.
    • Use lay flat pop out silicone popsicle mold because it will be easier to take out the popsicles. If you use pull out popsicles mold from the top, it will be hard to pull out and easily break because the popsicles are creamy and not suitable for using the pull out top popsicle mold.
    • When you use lay flat silicone popsicle mold, first pour some popsicle mixture into the mold. Then, insert the popsicle stick and pour more mixture to fill the mold.
    • Cover the lid, place them on a tray and put them in the freezer for 8 hours or overnight.

Thank you so much for the great response! I'll try out those tricks to reduce the bubbles, but the recipe is fantastic! Everyone has been loving the flavour, I went with strawberry for the boba powder

I keep getting a layer of bubbles from whipping the cream, when it freezes it creates a light layer and a dense layer, is there a good way to fix this?

You can try the following ways to reduce bubbles:

Whip at Low Speed: If you're using an electric mixer, start at a low speed to minimize the incorporation of air. High speeds can create more bubbles.

Chill equipment and cream: Make sure your mixing bowl, beaters, and cream are all well chilled before whipping. This can help stabilize the cream and reduce the formation of bubbles.

Use heavy cream: Heavy cream has a higher fat content, which can result in a cream that's less prone to forming bubbles compared to lighter creams.

Fold to remove bubbles: If you've already whipped the cream and it has too many bubbles, you can gently fold it with a spatula to deflate some of the bubbles. Be careful not to overmix it because this can cause the cream to become grainy.

Strain the Cream: If the bubbles are particularly bothersome, you can strain the whipped cream through a fine mesh sieve to remove them.

Remember to mix the mixture a little bit before pouring into the mold. Then, freeze it immediately.
