    Homemade Rice Noodles:

Rice noodles are made from rice. The basic ingredients for rice noodles are rice flour and water. Sometimes, tapioca or cornstarch are added to improve the transparency or increase the noodles chewy texture.

Also, they are very common in southeast Asia. Often, they are available in fresh, frozen, or dried form and different shapes, thicknesses and textures.

However, fresh noodles can only last a few days. When they are in dry form, it lasts longer. Besides, rice noodles are good for people who are allergic to wheat or gluten. This homemade rice noodle recipe is using Philips noodle machine which is easier to make noodles at home.

Philips pasta maker rice noodle recipe:

Asians like rice noodles in different forms. Personally, I love noodles and I can eat them every day. Most of the time I just purchase dry pack rice noodles from Asian stores, but I never thought about making my own rice noodles at home.

At first, I thought homemade rice noodles were a little bit harder to make because they used different flours. However, I have a Philips brand noodles machine. I like to try new noodle recipes and want to play around. As a result, after many trials here is the homemade rice noodles recipe using Philips noodles machine.

On the other hand, this rice noodle recipe is in grams and millimeters because it is more accurate and specific for Philips noodle machines. In fact, if there is too much water, it is hard to press the noodles out. However, when there is not enough water, the noodles will break easily.

The water content in this homemade rice noodle recipe is lower than regular handmade rice noodles because this is specific for Philips pasta noodle machine.

What are the ingredients for homemade rice noodles:

The main ingredients are rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, xanthan gum and hot boiling water.

Cooking tips for how to make homemade rice noodles from scratch:

    • Put rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, xanthan gum into the Philips noodle machine. Cover the lid and let it run a few seconds before pouring hot water.
    • Remember to use hot boiling water. When water is boiling, pour into the noodle machine. Be careful when pouring the hot water.
    • Hot water is around the measuring cup mark 150-160ml. Don’t need to be exactly. Little over 150ml is ok. Slowly and evenly pouring the hot water.
    • If noodles come out a little dry because of not enough water or dry weather. I suggest crumb it up and put it back into the Philips noodle machine. Run the machine and add a little bit of hot water again.

    FAQs:

    What is xanthan gum?

Xanthan gum is an effective thickening agent and stabilized to prevent ingredients from separating. Therefore, xanthan gum helps stabilize rice and tapioca flour and prevent them from separating.

Can I hang the noodles dry?

This Philips pasta noodle machine homemade rice noodle recipe is not suitable to hang dry the noodles because it will break easily. I suggest cooking them and refrigerating them. The best is eaten fresh.

How do you store the leftover rice noodles?

Cook the homemade rice noodles, drain and rinse with water and put into a glass container. You can refrigerate them for a couple days.

How do you cook homemade rice noodles?

Boil some water into a pot. When the water is boiling, put the fresh homemade rice noodles into the pot and let it boil. Be careful it will overflow, so stir it a little bit and add some cold water. Remember don’t stir it too early, let it boil a little then stir it. Cook until the noodles are floating around 1-2 minutes. Then, drain the water and rinse with cold water.

Can I use homemade rice flour?

    It should be ok.

Water over 140 degrees F can damage the plastic in the Philips pasta maker. Boiling is 212 degrees F. So is it wise to use boiling water? Would hot water work not above 140 work?
