    Easy and simple authentic Chinese braised bamboo shoots are a great side dish for rice and noodles. This instant pot braised bamboo shoots recipe has a few ingredients and takes a few minutes!

    Braised means cooking food slowly and simmering. A lot of Chinese dishes use this technique to cook food. Also, braised bamboo shoots are a classic and authentic Chinese cuisine.

    Northern China such as Sichuan like to cook bamboo shoots with chili oil or spicy sauce. Some people like to braise pork belly with bamboo shoots. And, I still remembered my auntie’s delicious Hakka food bamboo shoots braised with pork belly. 

    What are the ingredients for braised bamboo shoots?

    This braised bamboo shoots recipe has a few ingredients: sesame oil, dark soy sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, brown sugar, bamboo shoots and water. However, when I eat it, I like to dip with homemade chili oil because it gives more flavor!

    • When you use fresh uncooked bamboo shoots, remember to check out this post how to prepare bamboo shoots before using them. 
    • Press sauté button, add sesame oil, bamboo shoots and ingredients. Mix it very well and make sure the bamboo shoots are covered with sauce. 
    • Close lid and vent. Push the manual button and adjust time for 5 minutes at high pressure. Then, naturally release the pressure. 
    • After its cook, mix the bamboo shoots and sauce again.

    Yes, dark soy sauce just gives the color. Therefore, you can add more soy sauce and adjust to your taste. 

    Can I add meat?

    Yes, you can and most of the people braised with pork belly or pork. But, in this recipe, I focus on only braised bamboo shoots.

    1. Cut or slice 1 pound of cooked fresh bamboo shoots.

    2. Turn on the instant pot, press the sauté button. Pour 1 tablespoon of sesame oil into the instant pot. Then, put the cut bamboo shoots.

    3. After that, add 2 tablespoons of dark soy sauce, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and ½ cup of water. Mix it well and make sure the bamboo shoots are covered with sauce.

    4. Close the lid and vent. Push the manual button, adjust time to 5 minutes at high pressure and naturally release the pressure. When it is done, mix the bamboo shoots with sauce again. It's great to go with homemade chili oil if you like spicy food!
