Beef and Broccoli

Beef and broccoli is a classic Chinese home style dish. Now, you don’t have to order take out and can make this easy and tasty beef broccoli at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Beef top round steak
  • 1 head Broccoli (big one)
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 4 slices Ginger
  • ½ teaspoon Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Water

MARINATED SAUCE FOR BEEF:

  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil

THICKEN SAUCE:

  • 2 tablespoons Corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Instructions

  • Wash and cut broccoli into pieces
  • Sliced beef steak into small strips
  • Put the sliced beef into a bowl. Then add marinated sauce: 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon sesame oil and mix well. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes. 
  • Boil water in a pot. Then, add some salt and vegetable oil. When the water is boiling, put the broccoli into the pot and cook until the broccoli is soft. However do not over cook them. After that, drain the water and rinse the cooked broccoli with cold water, so the broccoli will retain its bright green color.
  • Lay the cooked broccoli on a plate. After that, set them aside.
  • Add ½ teaspoon vegetable oil into a non stick pan, turn on fire medium high. Next, add garlic, ginger and stir fried them a little bit. 
  • Pour the marinated beef into the pan and stir fried them a little bit.
  • Add a cup of water and thicken sauce (In a small container, mix 2 tablespoons corn starch and 2 tablespoons water). Then, cook and keep stirring until the sauce is thicken. 
  • When the beef is done (Don’t over cook them), pour the sauce and beef into a plate with broccoli.

Notes

Cooking tips for beef and broccoli recipe:

  • Marinate beef for at least 10-15 minutes before cooking.
  • Add salt and vegetable oil into boiling water to cook the broccoli that help broccoli color stay green.
  • Don’t over boil the broccoli. If over cook, the green color will be lost. Thus, cook until the broccoli is soft and still green.
  • Rinse with cold water that can retain broccoli’s beautiful green color.
  • We like more sauce for beef and broccoli dish because they are the best to go with rice . I add a cup of water. However, if you don’t like more sauce, you can reduce the amount of water and corn starch to thicken the sauce.
